The property at 614 Davidson was originally part of an 80-acre farm at the south edge of Defiance. This parcel was a land grant to Horatio G. Phillips from the United States, signed by President James Monroe and dated August 9, 1824. The land changed hands a number of times, and by 1862 William C. Holgate was the owner. The land was divided into lots and had several owners. Margaret E. Dils and her husband built the house in 1891. It retains the original woodwork and open staircase. The present owners are Gary and JoAnne Barton. |
